The solar collectors are American Solar Works Model ASW52-B evacuated tube thermal collectors. Evacuated tube solar collectors put out more heat than flat plate colletors in our colder climate. An evacuated tube is a very good insulator putting the suns energy into the water. they can even heat on some cloudy days. The collectors are backed by a 10 year warranty!

Applications for Solar Thermal

Domestic hot water - 2 panels and a 80 gallon Solar storage tank
Space heating with 3 or more panels and a 120 gallon solar storage tank
Swimming pools and spas

Some of our installations include:

A combination space heating and domestic hot water system. It is a solar assisted ground source heat pump putting solar energy into the ground loop in the Winter. This earth loop will be able to keep liquid temperatures to the heat pump at 50 degrees or more. Normal ground source heat pumps with out solar can have loop temperatures at 30 degree or lower. With higher loop temperatures the heat pump will put out more BTU's (heat) and increase overall efficiency. The system also heats 120 gallons of water Spring, Summer and Fall for domestic hot water thats a lot of hot water.
A combination space heating and domestic hotwater system. Fall and Winter it assists space heating a garage/shop. Completely automatic, if the thermostat in the garage calls for heat and solar heat is available it will keep the back up propane system off and heat the garage through a water coil and fan. When the themostat is satisfied it directs the solar energy over to a 120 gallon solar storage tank for home hot water needs.
A solar assisted snow melt system. Whenever solar energy is available it puts the heat into the radiant tubing under the driveway to the home. It is completley automatic controlled by a return temperature controller. The gas boiler will remain off if the loop temperature stays above the temperature controller set point. At this time the solar system is not heating doemstic hot water but certainly could Spring, Summer and Fall. It could be a future add on.
Under construction now will be a combination space heating and domestic hot water. The solar system will heat 120 gallons of water to be used for radiant floor heating and domestic hot water.
A new system to be installed will heat domestic hot water year round and an outdoor pool Spring, Summer and Fall.
